Sabah — The Companion

Overview

Sabah is a spiritually-centered wake-up platform designed to help Muslims wake up for Fajr through:

  • Community accountability
  • Group reminders
  • A custom vibrating wearable device

Rather than distracting from faith, Sabah enhances spirituality by merging purposeful technology with spiritual discipline and community support.

Inspiration

Many Muslims struggle to wake up for Fajr, one of the most spiritually rewarding yet challenging practices. Sabah was born from the belief that technology can uplift faith, not compete with it.

Goals:

  • Encourage intention & discipline
  • Build community support
  • Strengthen spiritual habits
  • Create a peaceful, inspiring experience (not another alarm app)

What We Built

Sabah consists of both hardware and software working together:

Wearable: Buzz Bracelet

  • Built using an ESP32 microcontroller
  • Breadboard prototype → custom 3D-printed enclosure
  • Embedded vibration motor for gentle wake-up reminders
  • Bluetooth & WiFi communication for real-time “buzz” signals

Software Platform

  • Group-based alarm accountability experience
  • Send wake-up “buzz” reminders to friends
  • Track spiritual progress and prayer habits
  • Real-time communication with wearable device

We built this from scratch with almost no initial electronics experience — learning everything hands-on.

Challenges & Learnings

This project proved how quickly we can learn with passion & purpose.

Next steps:

  • Deploy in masjid communities & campuses
  • Extend bracelet features beyond Fajr → full prayer accountability
  • Add Islamic reminders and reflective journaling
  • Integrate AI for personalized motivation & spiritual growth
