In the beginning of the hackathon, out team was stumped. There were endless project possibilities, and it was nearly impossible to just choose one. So, we chose two! We combined the idea of peer to peer homework and study help with currently popular chatting apps. Classmates will now be able to assist each other with their homework and studying for tests.
What it does
This project allows students to help each other with their homework and assignments, while also providing social interaction. The idea was to create a forum/chat where students can hang out and provide their homework and questions, such as "I'm not sure about problem #3. Can someone help me out? Students will be able to connect with peers in similar classes and grades.
How we built it
To create this project, we used frontend languages HTML, CSS, and SCSS. For the chatting application, we used simple PHP files, and also used and Javascript for the menu items and scrolling features.
Challenges we ran into
During the development of our project, we ran into several errors and problems. We had a lot of trouble implementing the theme and ui of the site, as well as the implementation of the chat. We wanted to create a sort of forum, but because of time restrictions, we decided to host a chatting app instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of the ui that we implemented, as well as the chatting app, which created many errors.
What we learned
We learned about creating a user interface, implementing it, and creating the CSS and Javascript files for the features. We also learned how to use PHP to program a chatting app, as well as implementing it into the html pages.
What's next for Class-connect
Because of time restrictions, we hope to add many extra features onto our app, such as the ability to upload files, and to separate individual grades and classes. We also want to implement a feature to search for and create new schools, expanding the app to not only one education system but around the nation.
