S.H.T. Poster
Inspiration
The inspiration for our project was the challenge 'How can we improve the Penn State student experience?'
What it does
Our project is a tool to facilitate communication between custodial staff and students.
How we built it
We initially tried using Django, but ended up going with Rust for the front/backend
Challenges we ran into
None of us had any experience with Django, and we had limited experience with Rust.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got it 95% functional on a very limited timeframe, there is one bug with the interface between the front and backend that prevents the MVP from being feature-complete
What we learned
When you have a hammer everything looks like a nail. We should have stuck with the simpler Rust framework instead of using something more powerful like Django.
What's next for S.H.T. Poster
-feature complete MVP
-analytics
-better frontend to encourage student usage
-improve setup (QR code creation) experience for janitorial staff
