Inspiration
RYSE of the 1NES was born from a question: What if myth and quantum theory spoke the same language? I wanted to create an AI-driven cinematic world that blends African mythology, spirituality, and science, where truth and illusion mirror each other. The project draws from ancestral storytelling traditions, fractal worldbuilding, and the metaphysical idea that consciousness shapes reality.
What it does
The film follows Kofi, a young smith from Alkebulan, who discovers an ancient relic called the Remnant, an artifact that bends illusion, memory, and time. His awakening triggers hidden forces known as the Watchers, who regulate reality itself. The short film merges AI-generated visuals, voices, and music to create a story that feels both ancient and futuristic, exploring power, identity, and the cost of awakening.
How we built it
This project was crafted entirely through AI-augmented filmmaking, integrating multiple generative tools into a seamless workflow: Visuals: Kling AI for scene generation and cinematic motion. Concept Art: MidJourney v7 for consistent character and world design (seeded for canon accuracy). Voice & Sound: ElevenLabs for voice performance; Suno AI for soundtrack and ambient scoring. Editing & Compositing: Adobe Premiere Pro for narrative rhythm, pacing, and emotional tone. Each tool served as a creative partner, not a replacement, every output was refined through human direction, shot sequencing, and storyboarding.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest challenge was balancing AI’s precision with human emotion. Many early drafts looked impressive but lacked soul. It took multiple iterations of visual tone mapping, narrative editing, and sound design to find emotional resonance. Technical challenges included maintaining visual continuity across AI-generated sequences (kling generates videos 10 seconds max time) and syncing voice inflection to match cinematic lighting and expression.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
RYSE of the 1NES was officially selected by multiple AI film festivals, including Venice AI Film Awards and Black AI International Film Festival (London). Created a fully AI-assisted cinematic pipeline from concept to distribution. Built a growing RYSE Universe, a multi-book, multi-media IP exploring myth, technology, and consciousness.
What we learned
Story still leads. AI amplifies creativity but cannot replace human intent. Workflow integration is everything. The magic lies in connecting visual, audio, and narrative systems seamlessly. Worldbuilding matters. Even in short form, layered mythology turns a visual showcase into emotional storytelling.
What's next for RYSE of the 1NES AI Short Film
This short film is the first chapter in a cinematic saga that expands across books, interactive media, and AI-generated series. Next steps include: Producing a longer narrative version for streaming festivals and a web series. Developing a video game experience, where viewers shift realities through their choices. Continuing to merge human creativity + AI systems to redefine how stories are told, shared, and experienced.
