1. Inspiration

One of my teammates went through a painful journey with undiagnosed OCD in his knee. Despite repeated visits, the healthcare system failed to recognize his condition, leaving him in constant uncertainty. Watching him struggle, feeling unheard and unseen, made us realize how many others might silently suffer. Our own survey across India showed that two-thirds of people don’t prioritize health check-ups, and only a quarter engage in regular activity. That reality became the spark for RUTURO — a personal AI health companion designed to fill these gaps.

2.What it does

RUTURO is an AI-powered XR health companion that acts like a “sixth sense” for healthcare.

RoTM, our interactive desktop health companion, uses sensors, cameras, and motors to capture health metrics such as heart rate, respiration, fatigue, and sentiment, powered by Raspberry Pi and computer vision.

BRoTM, our cross-platform app, delivers weekly social, mental, and physical health reports, complete with dashboards, visualizations, and clinical diagnostic support.

Cloud & Edge services ensure real-time monitoring with secure, low-latency analysis. Together, they form a Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) ecosystem, turning care into something continuous, empathetic, and adaptive.

3.How we built it

Hardware: RoTM integrates Raspberry Pi, cognitive servo motors, vibration & capacitive sensors, microphone/speaker, and cameras. Software: BRoTM is built with cross-platform support (iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, macOS), incorporating SQL databases, cloud functions, IoT Hub, and AI services. AI: OpenAI APIs and open-source LLMs (Phi, HuggingFace) enable sentiment analysis, gesture recognition, speech services, and contextual health insights. Cloud + Edge: Virtual machines ensure performance; edge computing on Raspberry Pi enables low-latency real-time health analysis.

4.Challenges we ran into

Detecting subtle health signals with clinical-level accuracy. Achieving low-latency XR data processing on consumer-grade hardware. Balancing cost vs. scalability in RaaS. Designing interactions that feel empathetic, not robotic.

5.Accomplishments we are proud of

Built a working RoTM + BRoTM ecosystem prototype. Secured cloud credits from Microsoft, AWS, and OpenAI. Validated use cases in healthcare, industrial, and service sectors.

6.What we learned

Healthcare is not just data — it’s empathy, context, and trust. AI-driven XR and robotics can turn technology into a life-saving everyday tool. Building adaptive ecosystems requires robotics + AI + cloud + human-centered design. Sustainability & SDG alignment is crucial to scaling impact responsibly.

What’s next for RUTURO

Advancing gesture recognition, emotion AI, and telemedicine partnerships. Scaling RaaS for elderly care, chronic illness, and home healthcare. Expanding globally, tapping into a market projected to grow at 17.6% CAGR (2025–2030), driven by rising healthcare demand, workforce shortages, and aging populations.
