Inspiration
As freshman, it is difficult for us to find a community in such a big school like Rutgers. In our dorm hall, we found a community within our floor when we study for our classes and exams despite having various majors and classes. We found a space which we could connect and share our ideas and worries. This inspired us to create RUstudying? so that we can help create a community for other students who might be facing similar challenges as we do.
What it does
Our website connects students with other students in creating and/or joining study groups.
How we built it
At first, we made a rough draft of our ideas and the subsections that we wanted on our website. Using the compiler and interpreter platform, Replit, we began coding our website through HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a few challenges. At the beginning, we struggled to convert our ideas into code. With a fresher mind, we managed to break down our ideas into subsections and focus on each individual section. In addition, we are not well-versed in HTML, so we had to learn the language along the way. As first-timers, we were intimidated by the participants in this hackathon, but we overcame this and are proud of our final product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As freshman and first-time hackers, we are proud of our final product of our website, which works. We are also proud of ourselves for not getting intimidated by this new environment.
What we learned
Not only did we learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript for the project, we also learned how to work together and communicate as a group. Team-building and time management were valuable skills that we got out from this hackathon.
What's next for RUstudying?
We hope to expand our website to aid more Rutgers students and have more professional developers work on this project to make it more interactive.
