Inspiration :
During the recent Covid19 Pandemic, there were a wide range of issues which were quite prevalent. Among these the migrant unemployment crises, pending wages, financial predicaments were certain major problems which did not receive much attention. Our team is mainly focusing on issues concerning Mumbai City. These crises are not so apparent to the normal strata, hence are overlooked. There are actually several sectors which seek employment but due to the lack of information/data of the migrant workers , inefficiency of the present system, many job offers are left unattended. Moreover there is always a fear of theft, thus hiring these workers is a risk and they usually don't get their desired field of work in the domains where they can actually work skillfully. So we came up with this online based solution which will connect the migrant labor force, government and employers under one wing and promote fair transactions/wage distribution via smart e-contracts.
What it does :
“DailyEarn” is a user interface which provides a safe and secure platform for daily wage workers/migrant workers to-
Grab an errand at the earliest opportunity. Get updates and information on the recent welfare schemes. Use your set of skills and easily secure earnings. Create an account with important credentials, mention your previous work experience(if any), you can even do work if you're a rookie.
It’s a one stop hub for perpetual and dynamic labour opportunities. Earlier it merely had credibility of spoken words and informal promises, but now we aim for transparent contracts and fair pay.
How we built it :
We used Figma, to create an overall look of DailyEarn and other software applications like Canva for aesthetics. The portal consists of 4 slides along with a settings menu. 1)The login page is where you can create an account. It contains the required personal data - contact number, worker skill(you can add) , previous work and review if you've used DailyEarn before. There is also an option wherein you can simply change to the language of your choice so that communication and understanding is better. 2)The Home Page- Notifications about the recent job opportunities along with availability of the number of workers and per day wages are mentioned. 3)Get Latest News- Here all general updates regarding the government’s recent schemes, holidays, 4)Get to Know More- This page consists of various schemes and other offers which will directly link you to the respective websites.
Challenges we ran into :
We were intrigued by the topic and we saw this as an opportunity to learn and improve our coding skills. Being newbies we aren't exactly professional coders, but the entire concept and idea behind building this interesting UI kept us going. We faced a few problems regarding the reach of this application, language barrier, whether it would be user friendly or not?, the design pages, executing all the ideas accurately, the data which would be necessary and other minute but crucial details. Hence we brainstormed and inculcated all our ideas together to solve the challenges in one go. Moreover the problem statement kept us motivated, hooked and we felt inspired to continue making DailyEarn with as much enthusiasm as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of :
In the entire process of making DailyEarn we actually learnt how to use Figma, Canva and other necessary softwares for aesthetically improvising our design and the overview of our project. We sat late long nights since the past few days studying together different statistics, analyzing and making important/beneficial changes. We gained a lot of knowledge which would definitely help us in future. Each person among us had a particular set of skill and expertise; we managed to coordinate, come together and work as a single team. The time constraint really helped us accomplish a lot and work harder and faster. Lastly this was an exciting event as learning can be much more efficient with fun activities and working towards some greater cause.
What we learned :
We sat late long nights since the past few days studying together different statistics, analysing and making important/beneficial changes,. working out of our comfort zones was great and the time constraint really helped us accomplish a lot and work harder and faster
What's next for DailyEarn:
We have created a rough plan of our project. It depicts certain important features and a web design. We plan to work more on it and scale it to a bigger level so that it might actually become a reality. We’ll make sure it is as user friendly as possible so that the migrant workers can easily access it . Moreover we will try to fill all the loopholes and are in for any suggestions and constructive criticisms .
