Inspiration
We both have family members who are really struggling to get food from the supermarket due to being high risk and there being a huge lack of online delivery slots. We also know a lot of people willing to go to the supermarket for these people but have no way of contacting them. Runnr gives them a way to match up with each other.
What it does
Runnr is a web application that allows runnrs to go online with a location and a method of transport. People who are unable to leave their houses can put in an order with a location where they need food delivered, and a list of what they're looking for. They will then be matched with someone in their area and will call the runnr to give more details of what they want. It is the runnrs responsibility to tell the buyer over the phone how much the groceries cost and the buyer will send that money to the runnr's provided paypal link and the runnr will deliver the food to the buyer's given location.
How we built it
We built a web application using angular, express and serverless frameworks. Both the founders are software engineers and we have built a few products before so split up the work and built the website over the weekend.
Challenges we ran into
Our original solution involved webhooks using WhatsApp's business API but we were not able to get access to the API in a timely fashion so we designed and build a web-based solution instead.
PayPal in the last 6 months has made a change which means you can no longer accept guest payments for personal accounts which means both the runnrs and the buyers will need PayPal accounts to use the service which we wanted to avoid.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We build a production-ready product over a weekend that has the potential to help thousands of people
What we learned
How to keep a product as simple as possible in order to launch it as a true MVP
What's next for Runnr
Keep building out MVP application to allow users to get what they need in a pinch. Bring it into the on-demand marketplace, providing a way for runnr's to get paid for their services which can then help boost the economy and provide ways to earn some income while many people are loosing their jobs, taking pay cuts or being furloughed
