Inspiration

Our team's first ideas was to make a free-roam RPG with a single ending, no matter the choices and routes taken. Although we soon realized it wouldn't be as easy as we thought it would be, our idea persisted through, and traces of the original project can still be seen throughout. RUN brings the idea of an inescapable death, where you are given the option to run.

What it does

RUN. is a free-roam "city" that as of now, only consists of four buildings. Once you press start, you can do whatever you'd like to protect yourself from the incoming disaster. And as the name suggests, running is an option. However, whatever you may choose to do, will result in the same ending.

How we built it

The game was made in Roblox Studio, and although many of the assets used were provided by the engine itself, we did our best to add twists to make them our own. The programming language used was Lua.

Challenges we ran into

During our original brainstorm, we wanted to create a 3D game using Unity, an engine we were all familiar with (thanks to the 7WC) However, we were unable to find a were are you to collaborate on a single project without going broke. Thus, we had to move on to other ideas. The rerouting took a good chunk of our time and especially since most of us had to learn something completely new.

What we learned

The main thing that we learned was how to run Roblox Studio. Most of us had never taken a lesson, or even watched a video on how to use this application so it was a real challenge. We had less than 9 hours to finish the base, so we had to reference many YouTube videos. The other main thing we learned was how to manage time. We all had different sleep schedules, and other extra curriculars so it was hard for our schedules to coordinate. In the end, we all succeeded and we are happy with the result!

What's next for Run.

Run will likely be moving more to the original idea of an RPG. If possible, we'd like for more locations to be added and perhaps a storyline too!
