Inspiration
After finishing my final exams, I decided to participate in my first hackathon. I looked up various opportunities and found the AWS Hackathon. With only a few days left, I began exploring different environments for game development. Although I had previously created games in C++, I found this experience to be much more enjoyable.
What It Does
The game is a simple yet engaging experience where the player must reach the end of a track consisting of simple game controls (WASD for player movement and SPACE for Jump). Currently, it features only one level, but I plan to add more levels with increasingly complex tracks in the future.
How I Built It
I developed the game using Unity and C#. I also utilized Amazon Q Developer, which significantly helped me write efficient code snippets and provided suggestions for improving my code. This tool was invaluable in enhancing my coding process.
Challenges I Ran Into
As this was my first time using Unity, I faced several challenges, particularly in configuring various elements on my own. With each new version of Unity, finding exact tutorials can be difficult, but this experience pushed me to explore Unity's capabilities more deeply.
Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of
I am proud to say that this is my first time creating a 3D game. While I have experience with 2D games, transitioning from C++ to Unity was a rewarding experience. I learned how much easier Unity makes the game development process.
What I Learned
I gained a solid understanding of the basics of Unity and C#, and I learned how to create simple games within the platform. It was a fun and educational experience.
What's Next for "Run from Darkness"
In the future, I plan to extend the game with additional levels based on demand. Thank you for your interest, and I look forward to what comes next!
