Inspiration
RUN! - Endless runner was inspired by the best mobile runner games like Subway Surfers and Temple Run. I wanted to bring that same instant excitement and intuitive swipe gameplay into Horizon Worlds — a world where players can jump straight into action without reading tutorials or menus. My goal was to capture the pure, satisfying feedback loop that makes mobile games so addictive: fast pace, bright visuals, and constant motion.
What it does
RUN! is a fast, flashy endless runner where players dodge obstacles, collect coins, and chase high scores on a procedurally generated track. The game is designed to grab attention within seconds — easy to learn, hard to master, and impossible to put down.
How we built it
I built RUN! in the Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor, combining GenAI tools for rapid prototyping and TypeScript scripting through VS Code for gameplay systems. I implemented a custom player controller, procedural segment generation, and custom animation randomization. I also used the public resource OneHUD by uRocketLife and relied on the MHCP YouTube tutorials and Meta documentation throughout development.
Gen AI Usage
I used AI Mesh generation tools to generate the most of the assets in the game and texture generation AI to add variety for some of them. I also used extensively SFX generation AI - it really helped a lot with getting sounds that I really needed. Gen AI helped me also with scripting and setup of some of the mechanics.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating a custom player controller that captures the feel of a traditional mobile runner while working seamlessly in Horizon. Combining responsive swipe controls with procedural generation and custom animations required significant testing and iteration, but the result delivers smooth and satisfying gameplay.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of how smooth, dynamic, and visually satisfying the game feels — especially how the animations, camera shake, and speed effects create a true sense of motion.
What we learned
I learned a lot about Horizon’s technical systems and realized how powerful GenAI can be for quickly creating and refining gameplay ideas.
What's next for RUN!
Next, I plan to add more background variety, new obstacles, fun power-ups, daily rewards, world cosmetics, IAP and even a multiplayer “last runner standing” mode for competitive play.
