Inspiration

We were inspired by the retro game Pong, one of the first computer games ever created. As it fit the theme perfectly, we came up with the idea to introduce a game mode recently made by Psyonix developers in their hit 2015 game, Rocket League, into our version of Pong! The game mode, called "Rumble," is a chaotic game mode that features multiple power-ups that spice up the original gameplay of football with cars. That's how Rumble Pong came to fruition.

What It Does

Rumble Pong is a game that features the previously mentioned Rumble mode, along with multiple other modes like Endless Mode, Standard Mode, and Blitz Mode.

How We Built It

We built Rumble Pong using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, p5.js for initializing most of our game

Challenges We Ran Into

We faced several challenges, including:

  • Figuring out how to implement and translate the power-ups from Rocket League to Pong.

  • A lack of experience with p5.js.

  • Importing audio files into our web app.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of

We're proud of several accomplishments, such as:

  • Matching the retro vibe of the hackathon with our backgrounds and asset choices.

  • Successfully implementing most of the translatable power-ups.

  • Coming up with some unique power-ups for our game!

What We Learned

Through this project, we:

  • Furthered our knowledge with p5.js.

  • Built experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • And, of course, learned a lot about teamwork!

What’s Next for Rumble Pong

Our plans for Rumble Pong include:

  • A more polished main menu, possibly with new modes.

  • Multiplayer access and a friends list.

  • New and innovative power-ups.

  • Different themes.

  • Controller/joystick support.
