Inspiration

Our inspiration came from old school fighter games, like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

What it does

Our game is built for two players to fight it out in a 1v1 local match. The players have the ability to attack each other using one computer, and have 2 attacks they can use,=.

How we built it

We built this project using React and Phaser 3. React provided with a framework that allowed easy editing and running in real time. It also helped us organize our website pages in a very easy matter. Phaser 3 is a javascript based game library that allowed us to simplify the game development process, as it had built in support for a physics engine.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered several challenges, one major one being that this was our first hackathon. We weren't sure what to expect. We also used technologies that we were very unfamiliar with, so we had not only had to implement them into a game, but we had to quickly learn how to use them. Another major challenge we faced was that the libraries we used were not natively compatible. We spent several hours trying to integrate them together, but eventually we managed to do it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to make a simple game from scratch, with close to no previous knowledge on any of the technologies we used. We made our own assets, such as sprites and backgrounds. Team leader slack: swamphacks-vii.slack.com/team/U01KZ2BRJH5

What we learned

One of the most important things we learned was how effective a team can be. Making a simple game like ours would have been impossible to make in 36 hours were it not for a team. We also learned the basics of web development, and learned that a lot of work goes into making a simple webpage. The technologies we used, such as Firebase and React, were a great learning experience, providing us with Valuable knowledge that will aid us in our future careers.

What's next for Rumble in the Swamp

We want to add features that we didn't get a chance to implement, such as Multiplayer, and the ability to save player stats.
