Inspiration

During peak harvest seasons, Indonesian farmers face a devastating reality: market oversupply causes prices to crash by up to 90%. With zero market absorption, smallholder farmers are frequently forced to destroy their own fresh produce just to avoid deeper financial deficits. This systemic issue turns hard work into massive food waste, contributing to Indonesia's position as the largest food waste producer in Southeast Asia. We built RumahTani to break this heartbreaking cycle and rescue agricultural surplus before it spoils.

What it does

RumahTani is a digital ecosystem designed to redirect high-volume agricultural surplus into productive capital and community value. Instead of letting excess crops rot, the platform connects local cooperatives into a unified network. It securely converts a farmer's excess harvest into individual, non-cash digital points linked directly to their E-KTP (National ID). Farmers can later redeem these points at their local cooperative for essential inputs like high-quality seeds and fertilizer, effectively safeguarding the economic value of their labor.

How we built it

We developed a streamlined digital platform focused entirely on inclusivity and automated redistribution:

AI Smart Matchmaker Agent: At the core of our platform, an AI engine continuously analyzes real-time supply and demand data across all regional cooperatives. It automatically routes agricultural surplus to areas experiencing deficits or potential secondary markets.
Zero-Waste Emergency Protocols: If the AI agent detects produce approaching its shelf life, the system triggers fallback protocols, which automatically redirecting the food to social shelters and food banks, or processing it into organic compost to replenish cooperative supplies.
Zero-Tech Barriers for Farmers: Knowing that many rural farmers face digital literacy gaps, we designed the platform with no smartphone requirement. Farmers simply bring their surplus and E-KTP to the nearest cooperative, where a local operator handles the digital logging, point updates, and AI matching instantly via our operator portal.
