Inspiration

COVID 19 is one of the fastest growing and concerning issues today being one of the most contagious and deadly diseases to spread. The deadly disease shares similar symptoms to the common cold or other diseases which makes it hard for all individuals to know what kind of disease they may be suffering when experiencing symptoms. This inspired our team to create a reliable application that will help individuals differentiate between the symptoms they are suffering.

What it does

RuleOut is designed to be a reliable application that will ask the user a list of questions and pinpoint the diseases they may possibly be experiencing based on their current symptoms and suggest appropriate medical advice.

How we built it

We built our own data, using information from mayoclinic.org. The data was later processed by oversampling and fed into a decision tree classifier using scikit-learn library in python.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered a few challenges during the duration of our hackathon, but it was overall a very good learning experience. The first challenge we had was to decide on a project that would be relevant but captivating to the judges. During the duration of the hack time, we experienced minor issues with gathering the required amount of data needed for the particular project we chose.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to create a prototype of our application and we managed to design the UI of the application.

What we learned

Creating an application and creating our own database for the information can be extremely difficult to do.

What's next for Rule Out

We plan to perfect our idea in the future and update our database to make the application even more reliable.
