Inspiration
RuhJac was inspired by a problem I experienced as a student: I lost track of assessment deadlines and failed to submit some work on time. Managing several courses made it easy to overlook important dates. I wanted to build a tool that helps students see what is due and turn their workload into a manageable daily plan.
What it does
RuhJac is a student task and study planner. Students can organise coursework by course, track upcoming and overdue tasks, and record priorities and estimated effort.
Its AI study assistant can break assignments into smaller steps and suggest study plans. The “Plan my day” feature helps students decide what to work on within their available time. Students review AI suggestions before adding them to their planner.
RuhJac also includes an optional Moodle integration for selecting enrolled courses and analysing selected course materials. This requires authorised API access from the university and has not yet been verified against my faculty account.
How we built it
I built RuhJac using Jac 0.34.1 for the application interface and server logic, with CSS for a responsive design. Jac handles authentication and stores each student’s planner data separately.
The study assistant integrates Gemini through server functions, keeping the API key out of browser code. The Moodle integration uses official web services, with access tokens held temporarily on the server.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges were protecting student data, making AI suggestions useful and editable, and designing a clear interface. Moodle integration introduced another challenge: signing in to the university website does not automatically grant another application access to course data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built a working planner with private accounts, course organisation, task management, and deadline tracking. I also implemented a study assistant that proposes tasks for students to review before saving, alongside a Moodle integration that lets students select which available materials the agent may analyse.
What we learned
I learned how to build a complete application in Jac, connect AI features to practical workflows, and work with authenticated APIs. I also learned that a useful student planner must make deadlines visible and help students take the next step.
What's next for RuhJac
I want to verify the Moodle integration with authorised faculty access, add deadline notifications and calendar synchronisation, and support analysing attached lecture documents.
