The Bot

Inspiration

Discord is a very popular social media platform which allows people around the world to communicate with each other. The function "BOT" allows users to interact with programs that are made by various developers through codes. The theme for the Citrix Challenge is to solve a problem for employees in a company. Little that we know about office life, it is inevitable to experience conflicts between colleagues and there may be lots of stress. Therefore, a Bot may be a good listener and people may release stress by talking to the bots.

What it does

When people enter commands, the bot will respond the users by sending positive phrases to cheer people up, or inspirational quotes which could hopefully allow the users to be more optimistic.

How we built it

We made a bot account on Discord and have our codes linked to the bot account. The IDE used was Replit and the team used Python to write the codes. We utilised online resources / articles to learn more about certain commands in the language of Python.

Challenges we ran into

Most of our team are quite new to coding, therefore we experienced quite a lot of bugs that we were unsure of how to fix. We slowly worked each bug out by constantly changing the code and testing it out and finally finished our product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Having the bot run successfully is a big accomplishment to the team. The hard work that we devoted hours of time in was not wasted. When we debugged the code, we also have the sense of accomplishment and that makes us feel motivated to write more codes in the future.

What we learned

Throughout this hackathon, we have definitely improved our skills in terms of coding. We learnt that through teamwork, our work can be distributed in order to complete the task as efficiently as possible. Our coordination and bonds with one another has increased as well.

What's next for Citrix: Positivity Ambassador

We hope to further enhance this product by including visuals such as videos and images. The product can also be developed to be interactive and help solve employee's problems realistically.
