Rue - this is the angel you speak to on the onboarding screens of the app
Inspiration
I have been thinking about this project idea for a very long time. I remember discussing this with my uncle about a year ago during my internship with FamilySearch. It originally began as a way to help return missionaries stay true to the habitual studying from their missions so as to stay strong in the church.
What it does
It connects users together! You can do a group scripture study regardless of whether or not you are in the same place and/or share the same schedules. This app is the perfect tool to record thoughts, impressions, and ideas to help yourself and others grow closer to God!
How we built it
React Native + Expo framework were the front end tools used to craft the user interface and supabase was the tool used to handle the backend operations as well as realtime functionality and data storage!
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishing realtime updates across different platforms was a massive challenge that required a ton of documentation surfing and experimentation. It was a great learning experience that allowed myself as well as my teammate to grow as programmers
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of the fact that the two of us wrote 2500 DRY lines of code in under 24 hours. With this code we accomplished realtime updates of INSERT and UPDATE queries to our database.
What's next for Rue
Rue will be a company in the future. We plan on extending the functionality and fleshing out certain features that we weren't able to finish today. For instance, we will add the ability to add friends and create groups to study! This is something that I wrote for the video script but I believe that it applies!
Rue is the next step in innovating the ways we come closer to God. In the next 10 years, Rue will gain in popularity and prepare the next generation of members to truly pick up the heavenly mantel with which they have been endowed
