The Opportunity:
The Creator economy is $100B plus and growing. The affordability of mobile devices with good cameras and internet data, especially in emerging markets has enabled many people to create and consume content. The pandemic catalyzed the situation and brought a big shift in our lives. The global economy shattered, but Social media received a big surge in both user base as well as in content consumption.
Encouraging Global Creator Economy Insights:
- Over 50 million independent content creators. 46.7 Million are amateur creators and 2 Mil are professional creators
- The number of social media users globally grew from 4.2 billion in January 2021 to 4.62 billion in January 2022
- 5.31 billion Unique mobile phone users
- 78% of consumers have discovered a new product while watching creators’ videos
- 2 Million Global Creators make 6 Figures
- As of today, sponsored Influencers are estimated to be worth $8 Billion.
- American Internet Creators Earned a Baseline of $6.8 Billion on the Nine Platforms in 2017
- YouTube alone generated approx $28.84 billion in revenue by the end of 2021 and $6.9 billion in the first quarter of 2022 from these micro-entrepreneurs
- The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 25% till 2025.
- As many as 66% of businesses reported investing more in creator/influencer marketing in 2022 compared to the previous year
- The growth of Influencer marketing spend in India alone is 40% YoY
- Creator economy startup investments were estimated to have hit $5 billion in 2021 alone
The Problem:
Post-pandemic big social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Clubhouse gained the most, but the content creators did not get their fair share of financial incentives which stopped many amateur creators from taking this as a full-time profession. On top of that, there is a shortage of tools that helps creators to manage and engage their community. The issue that content creators face:
- Ownership of content
- Trustless system for revenue generation
- The difficulty of earning an income makes amateur creators drop and abandon their plans.
- Brand collaboration tools
- Paid online/live event management
- Gated space where they can sell membership premium services(similar to services like OnlyFans, Patronage, and Special access channels)
- The tools/dashboard for easy content creation
The tech giants will have to work towards making their platform Creator-first, but they will always be a company run by a couple of people who will make decisions.
The Solution:
RuBaRu means "Face-to-Face". RuBaRu will be a permission-less platform that will make Content creators the owner of their content, help them turn themselves into brands, and eventually convert their efforts/skills into a formal business. The RuBaRu utility tokens will transparently incentivize users for:
- Spending time on the platform
- Uploading content
- Viral videos
- Being a Popular influencer (incentives increases non-linearly with popularity)
- Gifting and Tipping by followers
- Selling NFT Gated premium content & VIP fan clubs(Early access to content, Online events, Tutorials/Courses, etc)
- Advertisement revenue share
- Sponsored content/Product placement/Affiliate Marketing
- Merchandise and Ecommerce
- VIP meetups
RuBaRu DAO will empower the community to participate in decisions making thus creating a trustless system and business.
Draft Token Distribution Structure
Approach
Considering a fact that the majority of Internet users are on Mobile devices and Content Creation-Consumption is mostly done through these devices. We are designing and building a Mobile-first platform with a user-friendly interface so that the friction of adoption is minimal targeting both Android and iOS users simultaneously.
Why Internet Computer:
While finalizing the Blockchain infrastructure and tech stack, below were the evaluation criteria
- Decentralized system where data(Images/Videos/Audio/NFT) and Applications can be fully deployed on Blockchain instead of Cloud - IC serves websites and backends from Smart Contracts
- For supporting such a massive user base, the infrastructure should have the capability to scale - IC can seamlessly scale by adding Subnets
- High TPS and throughput for handling traffic of such scale - With a theoretically infinite Finalization rate, IC can handle the high volume of requests
- Low transaction fees to overcome the friction of adoption - With the Reverse Gas fees modal, gas fees for end-users are eliminated
- Low on-chain storage cost - It costs $5 / GB / year to store data on IC blockchain
The Challenges:
- Building a cross-functional team with the expertise to quickly translate the vision into a product, especially in Web3.0 is challenging. The Internet Computer ecosystem is still being built and it is resolving technical challenges on a daily basis that DApps startups can utilize but this may also cause a delay in time to market.
- Another challenge is to design Tokenomics with the help of learned economists so that a well-thought structure is in place with zero glitches that will help incentivize investors, users, DAO participants, etc
- Designing policies and strategies to tackle Regulatory and Legal challenges associated with Cryptocurrencies would require a competent legal team.
Milestones:
Mobile App design completed. The presentation layer is being implemented in Flutter to cater to multi-platform targeting(Android/iOS/Web). Working with BigMap to store large sets of video and audio data.
1st Milestone - Enable creators to utilize the platform to seamlessly create and share content so that they start earning tokens from day 1. Finalize Tokenomics and distribution
2nd Milestone - Onboard the first 1 Million Users/Creators by utilizing the Marketing and Airdrop strategy. Prepare for token sale and distribution. Enable the “Gifting & Tipping” system
Future Milestones- Creation of DAO and adapt/refine roadmap as per learnings from past activities.
P.S: We want to create a Regenerative Economy within the RuBaRu network for circulatory flows of tokens, information, resources, and services between Creators, Consumers, and Businesses.
What we learned
Web3.0 is not a quick money-making scheme as perceived by most, we learned that it takes good years to build a product that is adopted by the masses and we are lucky that we are sitting on one such opportunity.
