#Ruang Isu: Jadilah Bagian dari Perubahan!

Inspiration

The More, The Stronger It all started when we saw the news about the #AllEyesOnPapua campaign. The Awyu tribe in Papua was protesting the change in forest land use. At first, the campaign seemed like a flop—no impact, and the government didn't seem to care. But then, everything changed. The campaign went viral on social media, gaining massive support. It also drew public attention to the fight of the Awyu tribe, which has been practically ignored for the last couple of years. This campaign gains around 3 million active user’s support by sharing related content all over the platform, gaining more and more attention. [1]

It became one of the most successful campaigns ever, Proving the powerful impact of a collective voice, not just one individual, but an entire community working together to address these issues. The government had no choice but to start listening. Even it is so, it became more interesting when Indonesia’s current Vice president, Ma’ruf Amin stated that big issues like #AllEyesOnPapua only happen due to the lack of communication between local tribes, the government, the private sector, and other stakeholders involved.[2]

This leads us to a big hole that creates a big question for us: how can we establish direct communication between these individuals? Is there a way to significantly reduce the burden of communication? Poor communication and lack of clarity caused many governmental solutions to be deemed ineffective and insufficient enough to address the problems in certain communities. The outcome of these inadequate solutions still fails to address the underlying issues that certain members of the community experienced.

This is where Ruang Isu steps in to address these issues. Ruang Isu brings up a crucial aspect by aiming to strengthen and unite communities. Ruang Isu amplifies the voices of those in need, which could lead to significant change. Ruang Isu allows each individual in society to work with others for tomorrow. We are committed to ensuring that every single voice is not only heard but also united and empowered by a supportive community. Ruang Isu focuses on three key points that we want to emphasize: "Connecting, communicating, and collaborating." Through it, we aim to tackle our main concern and help bridge the gap between government officials, community members, and citizens to address social issues in communities across the country.

What it does

Ruang Isu empowers users to engage with government and community members by voicing their opinions and concerns on various topics such as infrastructure, health, education, nature conservation, economy, and other social issues. Additionally, users benefit from Artificial Intelligence (AI), which assists them in crafting their stories with enhanced background information and a more objective perspective. AI also eases readers by creating an objective summarize key points to various issues in Ruang Isu. Furthermore, users can explore existing issues and access comprehensive summaries, statistics, and government responses.

Another key feature is our like system, which allows users to "like" and "comment" on issues posted by others. This interaction helps highlight popular concerns and ensures that these issues gain visibility with the government. Additionally, our website provides the latest news from Indonesia, focusing on potential problems and major shifts in the country. This keeps citizens informed and engaged with current events, further enhancing the platform's role in facilitating effective communication between the government and its citizens.

How we built it

The prototype of Ruang Isu’s website has been meticulously developed using the advanced Figma program. Ruang Isu's website showcases an appealing and user-friendly interface making it highly versatile and practical for day-to-day usage. Our interface design is firmly rooted in real user feedback and preferences, ensuring a reliable user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the process of creating and bringing our ideas to life, we’ve encountered difficulties such as

  • This year's track presents quite a challenge because of some unexpected changes we've had to navigate.
  • It was challenging for us to decide which specific challenges to concentrate on in each track, as every challenge holds its own unique and compelling appeal.
  • The time constraints challenge us to think on our feet and tweak our schedule to make the most of our time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take great pride in the fact that Ruang Isu is an original concept crafted from the ground up. The visualization and implementation of these ideas have been made possible through the unwavering dedication and hard work of our team. Our website proudly features an AI component designed to facilitate communication between citizens and governmental officials. We are way beyond satisfied and are pleased to present our prototype to the eyes of the public.

What we learned through the hackathon

During Garuda Hacks 5.0, we discovered the importance of patience and timing. Sometimes, taking a step back to analyze the situation allows for the creation of a simple yet effective plan, avoiding unnecessary complexity. Our group adopted the motto “CCC” – Communication, Collaboration, and Connection. By understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, we complemented one another and fostered a stronger team dynamic.

Patience enabled us to plan and execute more effectively. Clear communication helped align our goals and improved our teamwork. Collaboration allowed us to leverage each member’s strengths, resulting in a more cohesive and productive team. Building strong connections within the team enhanced our collaboration and support, ultimately leading to a successful project. These lessons not only improved our project outcomes but also strengthened our teamwork and problem-solving skills.

What's next for #RUANG ISU

Our project, Ruang Isu is more than just a website; it serves as a bridging opportunity for individuals all around, nationwide to aspire on what they believe. Ruang Isu stands as a transparent platform with a glimpse of actual real-world problems. Our user’s security is one of our main priorities therefore an additional safety layer protection shall be implemented as a verification step. We’re implementing a step for users to upload a picture of their NIK (National Identification Number). Ruang Isu will use the data to verify the user’s account, ensuring a more secure and reliable process with reduced risk of human errors. With upcoming features being added, our team still finds ample room for improvement. Therefore, Ruang Isu remains open to further enhancement to ensure the convenience of our users.
