Inspiration

Covid-19 took the world by surprise and put everyone under strict restrictions till this pandemic is over. Citizens are always curious about information but sometimes accessing or looking for this information can be difficult. Therefore, the inspiration for the Suri discord bot is to help inform Canadian users of the amount of Covid-19 cases in their area.

What it does

When a server decides they would like to invite Suri into their server, they will go on to our website and click "invite the bot." After the bot joins, it will display instructions on its icon ".commands" When the users read the different commands that are programmed with Suri, they will be able to determine the amount of Covid-19 cases in their province or even in their city daily.

How we built it

The website was built by using HTML and CSS to provide users with a clean and easy-to-use design. The discord bot was built by using python and COVID-19 Canada Open Data Working Group API. The python script reads the data from the COVID-19 Canada Open Data Working Group and translates that data into its variables which are then output through the discord bot. Whenever a user inputs a different province or city, it finds that input inside the API, and then the API outputs the data.

Challenges we ran into

Due to everyone trying something new, all group members did not have experience in the topic they were assigned. For instance, the person who made the Suri website had no prior knowledge of HTML and CSS and the group member that developed the Discord bot did not have prior knowledge of Python or API. Although there were many challenges during this hackathon, all members had an amazing time and learned many new skills

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-The website design is sleek, very minimalistic, developed from scratch, and is working -The python code can read the API -Suri can be accessed on any discord server! -Everyone learned new skills

-Adding more features to Suri, such as average Covid-19 Cases in the past week -Adding more features to the Suri website such as contacts and other information -Fully publicizing this discord bot and website.
