RU Course Ready is a dynamic website that allows you to rate Rutgers University classes, view peer feedback, and helps you generate a schedule to meet your goals and ensure you graduate on time.

Inspiration

As Rutgers University students and active community members, we are aware that a lot of people want to prepare for classes ahead of time and want to get an idea of what it is like, but aren't sure about how to do so and therefore go through several different websites to gather a well-rounded opinion. In addition, some people have trouble scheduling classes in order to graduate on time, which is a common issue that can be prevented. We are extremely passionate about advancing education, so we took advantage of this opportunity to work together and create a product that can help real users locally.

What it does

RU Course Ready is a website that allows students at Rutgers University to view feedback about different courses as well as create an account and contribute with their own ratings and experiences. Additionally, the RU Schedule Generator has the ability to generates schedules that suits students' academic plans based on the classes they select and their set graduation date!

How we built it

We started by using Figma to create a wireframe with all the key features we wanted to include. We followed this by translating the design into HTML, CSS, and JavaScript through VSCode.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we ran into was our knowledge gap because we are beginners and while we have used these coding languages before, we had to do a lot of research on how to create certain features to bring our vision to life. In addition, this was our first hackathon, so working within the short time frame and trying to develop our idea was a new experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of the product we created because, for the most part, we were able to translate our Figma designs into an actual website. Again, this was our first hackathon, so creating an actual product that has the potential to help others is something we feel very accomplished for.

What we learned

The most significant thing we learned through this endeavor is that we don't have to know absolutely everything in order to be successful in making an idea into a product! We were nervous when we initially arrived, but we ended up starting something we are excited to continue.

What's next for RU Course Ready

We plan on continuing to work on RU Course Ready in order to make it fully functional and allow students to experience the benefits of our idea! More specifically, we hope to incorporate generative AI for the RU Schedule Generator, as well as enhance some key features that can be more refined with time.
