Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights for the PS2 as it is a game I have many fond memories of. This lead to The Dungeon which will be a stepping stone towards the development bigger and more complicated games that I hope to create in the future.
What it does
The Dungeon is a simple dungeon crawler where you go around and defeat all the enemies in various different rooms. There are also powerups (a single damage boost) that can be collected as you explore the dungeon.
How I built it
Utilizing the Godot game engine and Godot's implementation of .NET and C# are what were used to create this project. Assets were found through itch.
Challenges we ran into
The main difficulty was the time crunch as I used up the beginning 4 to 5 hours trying to use an API for weather project and then deciding to switch gears. This lead to me falling back to another idea of making a game in Godot as I want to learn more about the engine.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
What I'm most proud of in terms of accomplishments is the fact that I have a working (albeit unpolished) product at the end of the hackathon. Beyond just having a functional prototype, I am extremely proud with the knowledge I was able to gain while working on this project and the things I will be ab
What I learned
Was there a lot I learned with this project. Not only did I learn a lot about how to structure a game project which will help with the development of bigger games, but there are many things that I learned specifically about Godot. Just to name a few, I was able to learn how to use 2D and 3D assets in conjuction, making colliders for 3D colliders for 3D objects was something I never thought I would do for a game, and all the connections between different states to make different actions happen were a whole other challenge.
What's next for The Dungeon
Sadly, this is the end for The Dungeon as the game itself is just a project created to learn. However, the things I have learned while creating The Dungeon will hopefully be carried over to the many games that I plan to create in the future.
