🐰 Why We Built It

The idea for Rowdy Routine came from a real need in our home: I was searching for a task or routine app to use with my kids, but none of the existing options quite fit the way our days worked—or the personalities of my kids.

When I discovered the Bolt Hackathon, I thought... why not build the app we want together during summer break?

👧👦 Built with My Kids

It quickly became a fun family project. My 10-year-old daughter is endlessly creative—she illustrated the character and helped dream up Rowdy’s personality. We knew we wanted something inclusive and fun, and right on cue, my 5-year-old son came bouncing into the room with a stuffed bunny. Just like that, Rowdy the rabbit was born.

My daughter named the app Rowdy Routine and illustrated all the animations herself. I’m a designer with no coding experience, so it was wild to see our idea go from sketch → Figma design → working web app using Bolt in just a few weeks.

Using ElevenLabs, I gave Rowdy a voice! The app can read out the daily agenda or individual tasks, making it both more accessible and more delightful.

🔧 What We Learned

The biggest challenge? Paring down our ideas. We’ve brainstormed dozens of features, but had to focus on the essentials to get a real MVP working in time. Debugging without coding experience was also tricky—but Bolt made it doable. It’s been amazing to see how quickly a small team (in this case, just a designer and two inspired kids!) can bring an app to life.

What started as a chaotic summer project turned into something magical: a playful productivity app that adds joy to daily life. We're already using it in our family—and sharing it with friends!

🧠 Smarter Planning Tools

• AI-assisted planning – Smart suggestions for building realistic routines.
• Routine templates – Saved routines for school days, summer, sick days, or vacations.
• Monthly & weekly views – For older kids learning to plan beyond today.
• Repeat & rollover tasks – Auto-repeat and auto-carryover for unfinished to-dos.

• Talk to Rowdy – Ask what’s on your schedule or get reminders in a fun, interactive way.
• Sensory-friendly options – Calm animations, simple timers, and gentle encouragement for neurodivergent users.
