Inspiration
We were inspired to make this project to offer those new to UTSA's main campus another way to explore and gain insight about it at the enjoyment of their own home.
What it does
Allows the player to tour UTSA's main campus virtually via an interactive 2D game, inspired by none other than Pokemon! Each building and special monument has a unique dialogue pop-up that contains factual information about it
How we built it
Each team member was delegated a task and later combined everything in Unity to create our finished product.
Challenges we ran into
We had challenges learning the language we needed which was C# and Unity because none of the members had experience with it. One member was not able to download Unity so we had them send it to another member to make sure their code works. It was an absolute lot of learning crammed into a 24 hour session!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we produced something you can see, experience and can actually be beneficial to incoming students!
What we learned
We familiarized ourselves with Unity, which was a massive challenge to overcome for first time game devs! We also realized that writing C# scripts wasn't as bad as we initially thought, and is essentially a reimagined Java. Time management and communication was huge as well!
What's next for Rowdy Tours
We'd like to take the time to explore Unity much more in depth and become comfortable with using the software. We will try to expand more on our project to include a lot more places on the map that the player can access and develop a mini-quests as well as a concrete main storyline.
