A website with a controllable rover inside a simulated environment. The website displays the rovers information in an overlay. This rover can later be upgraded to be automated.
What Inspired Us: We have a mutual love of space, and some of our members are highly interested in autonomous vehicles.
What We Learned: How much math is required to control a simulated environment, the challenges of front-end frameworks, JavaScript Syntax, How to use Github
How We Built Our Project: We built a simplistic website to display our rover and charging/internet zones. 1 Member of our team created the environment in a canvas element, while another member incorporated the canvas element into a website to display our information. The other 2 members of our team worked on the algorithms required to adjust the rover's battery and storage depending on the conditions met/not met.
Challenges We Faced: We were originally planning on making the rover autonomous, but we underestimated how difficult it was to create the environment, borders, sensors, etc. So we settled on the rover being controlled by the user, and adjusted our algorithms accordingly. We also underestimated the learning curve of react.JS and front-end web development
