Inspiration
Our inspiration mainly came from our group members' interests in cooking. Since we were fond of making dishes from our respective backgrounds, we thought it would be more convenient if we had most of the dishes in one site that would easily be accessible hence our inspiration for starting this project - to reduce the hassle of accessing the recipes of our favorite dishes on separate websites.
What it does
"Routine with the Cuisine" is a chatbot that helps users access their favorite dishes. With 4 popular dishes from Italy and China - personally selected by our members. The bot help navigate users through an interface to lists steps in creating the dishes themselves. First by listing a series of ingredients, then by the steps on how to make it. Once that's all done, you're on your way to completing the dish
How we built it
The creation of our project was made through a mixture of python coding (the bot itself), and Figma - translated into HTML (the website)
Challenges we ran into
When integrating python into our HTML code, we encountered a problem in being able to run the script through our website. Since the python script itself was not able to function without being able to be embedded within our HTML code. We had to resort to trinket as a tool in order to resolve this issue. It was something that stumped us throughout the competition and one which we hope to overcome within the future
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of just finishing the bot, in the aforementioned sentence in which we encountered the problem, most of our group members had lost hope in ever being able to finish our project - of course being novices did not help. Since we had spent a considerable amount of time trying to solve the problem, our frustration was at an all-time high because of it. Being able to submit it without worries of having an incomplete project is something we’re definitely proud of – as we thought it was impossible beforehand
What we learned
From creating our project we learned that we tend to make a lot of careless mistakes in typing our script, especially within python. Our original python script displayed compared to our current one is a drastic upgrade and something that we heavily revised to polish. In the future, we hope to be more considerate when writing such scripts.
What's next for Routine with the Cuisine
After this project, we as a team plan on creating a finance bot that can help incorporate specific needs in our trading strategies (Eynard and Peter plan to major in finance one day). As such we think that this project although ambitious will be one we look forward to. QHacks has taught us many things and we look forward to incorporating what we learned in our finance bot.
