Routemarks gives the safety level of a route in the city. By searching for routes in the application, red marks will be displayed over the route which denote accident locations or bad road conditions. Any citizen can contribute to the application by creating marks in the application if they witness an accident or damaged roads. These data will be moderated and other users can like/dislike those. Based on which the user gets some score.
These marks generated can be of great help in city planning. Government can take better decisions in road management, they get a better picture of safety level of the roads in the city. Application also generates different analysis and reports. This is platform which encourages citizen to be part of the development of their city.
Actually I started working on this hobby project in 2013 to take part in a Google developer challenge. But unfortunately could not submit it. I will have to rework on this product to make it into production.
The next step to Routemarks will be automatically collecting the data with the help of IOT. With the help of CCTV cameras, we can do the image processing and identify an accident and send this data to application. Another step is to develop a hardware which can be installed in the cars/other vehicles which will automatically detect an accident, call emergency number and post data to Routemarks application. This hardware can also detect the potholes, sharp curves etc as well.
