Inspiration
Inspired by the computer games we had growing up. We remember when we were kids and played the SpongeBob cooking game on Nickelodeon's old website, where the goal was to cook as many correct orders to get money, before failing. We still play games like that today (Overcooked)! We also thought the idea was cool because it matched the theme.
What it does
A small text-based game that randomly generates customers and their orders. The user will get good reviews for how many orders they complete and lose stars for orders that can't be fulfilled. Three ingredients are restocked every five customers, depending on what the user wants to restock.
How we built it
Built-in replit to ensure easy merging of code between teammates. The game runs out of the main, which accesses classes and functions.
Challenges we ran into
Most challenging was creating the classes, as it had been a while since we had used them, which is why they are space. Another challenge was trying to get the ingredient function to correctly read the customer order and decide if we had the ingredients to make it. The order is two words (main ingredient and meal) so we had to find the main ingredient first, and make sure we had that. Then find the meal and make sure we had the ingredients to create the meal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud that we were able to create the idea that we wanted in such a short amount of time.
What we learned
More about accessing classes, random generation from vectors, and how to use replit
What's next for Rosehack Diner
We were discussing creating a GUI for the game but decided we didn't have enough time or experience to do that on short notice. We could possibly further this idea in the future.
