Inspiration
The inspiration for this project was the theme of this hackathon: gaming and female empowerment! We decided to create a game with Rosalind Franklin, an icon among women in STEM, as the main character.
What it does
In the game, the player is Rosalind Franklin. The player navigates Rosalind Franklin through her life and has to help her avoid Watson and Crick as she undergoes college, coal research, and DNA research. If the player accidentally hits either Watson or Crick, then they will be redirected to a trivia question that is related to female empowerment.
How we built it
We built this game using Python, Git, Github, and PyGame.
Challenges we ran into
We had troubles installing PyGame, which delayed our starting time. We also ran into issues with merge requests because of conflicting errors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of building this game, as we are both very new to game development.
What we learned
We learned a lot more about PyGame and how to build a game from scratch using Python.
What's next for Rosalind's Double Trouble DNA Hustle
We plan to export our game to itch.io so people can play it in their web browsers.
