Inspiration

Growing up, my room was my sanctuary, a space where I could truly be myself. But as I changed, my space often didn’t. I’d feel stuck like my surroundings no longer reflected who I was becoming. What I miss most is the joy of decorating with my mom or best friend. I realized how powerful it would be to have a tool that lets you design freely—without limits, without damage—and collaborate with the people you love, no matter where they are.

What it does

This app allows you to design and customize spaces together through multiplayer mixed reality. We invite you to collaborate with friends, save your designs, upload them, and exchange designs in your community!

How we built it

We built this project using Meta Quest 3s, SDK, and sample projects all inside of Unity engine. All 3D models were custom-designed and painted, occasionally using base models as a jumping-off point.

Challenges we ran into

One of the key challenges we encountered early on was integrating essential user experience elements, particularly the onboarding process, into the final build within tight time constraints. This initially caused friction between the design and development teams as priorities clashed. However, it ultimately led to a more collaborative approach, where the team devised a streamlined strategy that effectively balanced design, development, and time considerations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think for the whole team seeing the collaborative multiplayer experience come out so seamlessly was a huge success for this project, the moment we were able to pass our virtual basketball with one another we realized the impact and power that this core feature had on the user.

What we learned

I think as a team we learned a lot about having diverse perspectives and how beneficial this component can be to a project. By having Technical Artists, Developers, UX designers, and marketing experts on the team we were able to view the project through so many lenses to bring a more thought-out experience to the user.

What's next for Rosa

The future of Rosa is centered on becoming a social, community-driven program that fosters creativity, collaboration, and fun! To enhance the social and collaborative experience, Rosa will introduce features like mood board curation, allowing users to save and organize decor arrangements or load up someone else's design in their own home.

In addition to these features, the app aims to expand beyond room decor by allowing users to create and upload custom assets from third-party 3D design tools like Blender or SketchUp, significantly enhancing creative freedom. To further empower creators, Rosa plans to introduce an asset marketplace where users can buy, sell, or share their designs, building a thriving community of artists and designers. By integrating these capabilities, Rosa will evolve into an all-encompassing platform for immersive design, self-expression, and collaborative creativity.
