Be a Climate Champion: Let Plants Lead the Way!

Inspiration

One real-time example that has inspired us to embark on this project is the global movement led by young climate activist Greta Thunberg. Inspired by Greta and the countless other activists, organizations, and individuals working tirelessly to combat climate change, we have been motivated to create a platform that enables people to contribute in a meaningful way. By connecting individuals with the beauty and benefits of plant growth, we aim to harness the collective power of greening our surroundings and reducing the carbon footprint. . It is with this inspiration that we embark on our project, driven by the belief that together, we can be the climate change makers our planet needs.

What it does

Its core mission is to encourage users like you to grow more plants, fostering a substantial reduction in the greenhouse effect and paving the way for a greener future. Whether you are looking to nurture plants indoors or outdoors, on a desk, balcony, or in a yard, or even if you desire the vibrant beauty of flowering plants or the elegance of non-flowering varieties, our website tailors its recommendations to suit your exact needs.

How we built it

We created a web application using html, javascript,css and python-flask. It was a fun and interactive coding session with my teammates. We started by defining the core mission and objectives of our website. We brainstormed ideas, and identified the potential impact of plant cultivation in mitigating its effects. Once the concept was established, we moved on to the planning and design phase. We also created wireframes and prototypes to visualize the website's structure and layout. With the planning and design in place, we commenced the development process. Our team of skilled developers and designers worked collaboratively to bring the website to life.

Challenges we ran into

We faced many challenges in the form of exams and assignments assigned to us from our university which created a lack of time. Other constraints were the lack of good datasets already available, which made us create a small sample dataset of plants and their nature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely happy that we were able to create our first web and it contributes to climate control and that we were able to complete it before the deadline. Our project has served as a valuable educational resource, equipping users with knowledge about the benefits of plants in combating climate change which would be one of our very big achievements

What we learned

We have learnt names of various plants which we have never heard before. Moreover , we interacted with many people and hence we were able to grow our knowledge on climate change.

What's next for Roots For Renewal

In the Future, during our leisure hours, we hope to expand the functionality of our application and make it industrial ready. We wish to create a more precise and accurate dataset and also using that we will integrate user communication , so that users can interact amongst themselves to grow their curiosity on climate control.
