Inspiration
I was inspired to create ROOT because it is something I, as a JEE aspirant, would genuinely use. While preparing for competitive exams such as JEE or SAT, taking mock tests is important, but understanding **WHY **mistakes are made is even more valuable. I believe ROOT can turn error analysis into a meaningful learning process, making it a practical and useful innvation that could benefit students and society.
What it does
ROOT is an innovative AI-powered diagnostic learning engine that takes assessment data and turns it into a dynamic model tailored to each student's learning needs.
How we built it
ROOT is designed to incorporate various AI and machine-learning elements.
Challenges we ran into
ROOT has limitations, such as its inability to always identify the cause of incorrect answers and its dependence on data quality for accurate diagnostics. It should complement rather than replace human teachers, as it cannot fully account for factors like motivation and personal circumstances in learning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of ROOT because it transforms educational assessment by shifting the focus from merely identifying correct answers to understanding the underlying reasons for mistakes, thereby offering students personalized, actionable insights. Additionally, ROOT supports teachers by providing valuable data-driven insights into student misconceptions and curriculum challenges, ultimately enhancing the educational experience for both students and educators
What we learned
I leaned 2 key things while developing this project 1) While developing ROOT, I realized that many of the problems I once thought were unique to me—my mistakes, frustrations, and difficulties while preparing for competitive exams—are actually shared by students around the world. I also learned that I cannot solve every problem, but I can choose one important problem we all face: “Where did I go wrong?” Most importantly, I learned that half the struggle in solving a problem is simply having the courage to start. I hope to carry this mindset into every challenge I take on in the future. 2) Developing ROOT changed the way I view AI. I realized that AI can be useful not only for large, obvious problems, but also for smaller, specific problems that people often have to deal with on their own. Error analysis after tests is one such problem, where students are often left to interpret their mistakes themselves. Exploring how AI could assist with this showed me the importance of responsibly embracing AI as a tool to solve meaningful real-world problems, while still keeping human judgment and responsibility at the center.
What's next for ROOT : AI for Root-Cause Analysis of Learning Errors
The next step is to build and test a working prototype, starting with JEE-level Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or even the SATs using real student feedback. In the future, ROOT could expand to school education, programming, languages, and professional training while keeping privacy, fairness, transparency, and human oversight at its core.
