Inspiration
Finding off‑campus housing usually means messy Snapchat stories, group chats, and word of mouth. We wanted a cleaner, more reliable way for students to discover housing near campus.
What it does
roomy lets students scroll verified housing listings near campus, view photos and details, and message the poster directly, all in one organized place.
How we built it
We built roomy using Next.js and React for the frontend with reusable UI components. For demo purposes, we used mock listing and messaging data to simulate real interactions.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing backend complexity with hackathon time constraints was difficult. We decided to prioritize a polished, realistic demo experience over full authentication and live data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a clean, modern UI that feels like a real product. The browsing, listing, and messaging flow clearly demonstrates how roomy would work in practice.
What we learned
We started the project with little experience in working on a team in this scale. There was a steep learning curve. Through tutorials, documentation, and debugging, we learned how to fix errors and the importance of having a clear project structure to avoid wasting time.
What's next for roomy
Next step is creating a bulletproof backend and a scaling the idea.
