Inspiration
College life is exciting, but sharing a room with the wrong roommate can be stressful. We wanted to solve the problem of random roommate allocation and make it fun, vibe-based, and personal.
That’s why we created RoomieRadar a ,tool that helps you find your hostel soulmate through lifestyle choices, hobbies, and even music taste 🎶.
What it does
RoomieRadar matches you with the right roommate by:
- Asking simple vibe questions (🌙 Night Owl or 🌞 Early Bird?)
- Considering hobbies and interests 🎨
- Adding a fun twist with shared music playlists 🎧
It also shows a "Roommate Match Score" so you instantly know your compatibility.
🛠️ How we built it
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Deployment: Netlify
- Design: Emoji-rich UI with clean and calming aesthetic
Challenges we ran into
- Making the UI minimal yet aesthetic took many tries.
- Handling JavaScript logic for matching answers was tricky.
- Managing time was tough — we wanted to add more features but had to focus on the core idea.
Accomplishments
- Built a working prototype within hackathon time.
- Designed a fun, clean, and user-friendly interface.
- Received positive feedback for making roommate matching less stressful.
What we learned
- How to deploy projects on Netlify easily.
- Writing cleaner, more responsive HTML and CSS.
- The importance of simplicity in design.
We even designed a simple formula for compatibility:
$$ Match\ Score = \frac{Lifestyle + Hobbies + Music}{3} $$
What’s next for RoomieRadar
- Add AI-based roommate compatibility prediction.
- Integrate Spotify API to generate playlists automatically.
- Build backend with secure login and user profiles.
- Expand into a campus-wide student community app.
