Inspiration
Roomie Match popped up from a real headache we've all faced as freshmen: finding roommates and buddies. Let's face it, the usual route of forking over cash to some unofficial Instagram page to post our "Roomie Wanted" ads was a drag. And don't get us started on those ancient, user-unfriendly university roommate finders. Clunky, dull, and looking like they were designed in the dark ages, they were more of a puzzle than a help. That's when the lightbulb went off. Why not build something ourselves? Something free, easy to use, and actually fun. A place where you swipe right into a chat with your future roomie. That's how Roomie Match was born.
Learning Journey
Building Roomie Match threw us deep into React and JavaScript's world. Debugging complex codes and seeing our efforts materialize on the screen was magical. It taught us perseverance and the true value of a growth mindset when facing tricky code issues.
Building Process
We focused on what users need, using React for its slick interfaces and JavaScript for its flexibility. Roomie Match was designed to make everything from creating profiles to finding matches feel effortless.
Challenges
Our journey wasn't without bumps. Small changes in code could cause big headaches, and building a detailed user database was tougher than expected. Learning to integrate Firebase was a curveball for us. Yet, each challenge was a lesson in disguise, pushing us to find creative solutions and work better as a team.
Conclusion
Creating Roomie Match was a rollercoaster of challenges and triumphs. It reinforced the importance of teamwork, the excitement of solving problems, and the joy of learning. Reflecting on this journey reminds us of technology's power to bring people together and the vast possibilities within software development.
