Inspiration
As introverts, navigating social environments can often feel like walking through a thick fog. We frequently found ourselves struggling to "read the room" or knowing exactly what to say in high-pressure situations. We wanted to quantify the "social sense" that invisible atmosphere or "vibe" and turn it into something tangible and actionable. This personal challenge is what inspired Roomie.
What it does
Roomie tracks and visualizes the human sensory experience of a social atmosphere. By detecting environmental cues and social signals, it quantifies the room's energy into a simplified Social Weather Forecast.
- Sunny: Relaxed and high engagement.
- Overcast: Neutral or formal energy.
- Stormy: High tension or conflict.
It doesn't just detect the mood; it provides the user with specific suggestions on how to engage or "manipulate" their own social input to clear the fog.
How we built it
This was our first time using Figmake, and it was a game-changer. We started by inputting prompts to generate a rough layout and architecture. From there, we moved the project into Figma Design to hand-craft the UI and the custom "weather" visualization system. Our process involved:
User Research: Identifying the specific pain points of introverts in social settings. Rapid Prototyping: Iterating between Figmake’s AI-generated structures and our own manual refinements.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was the "Sensor" logic. It was difficult to imagine how to collect raw social data and categorize it into a cohesive "weather" score. Additionally, mastering Figmake required a learning curve; we had to learn how to write highly accurate prompts to get the specific UI results we needed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of the sequential scanning animation we designed. It successfully mimics the feeling of "sensing" a room in real-time. We are also proud of how we took a very abstract human experience social anxiety and turned it into a functional, beautiful design.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate AI tools like Figmake into a professional design workflow. It taught us that AI is a powerful starting point that allows you to expand on a rough idea quickly. We also learned how to better articulate our design goals through precise prompting.
What's next for Roomie - Your Social Weather Forecast
We want to expand the "Weather" categories to include more nuanced social climates, like "Hazy" for awkwardness or "Heatwave" for high-excitement events. We also hope to explore more complex sensory inputs, such as voice tonality and body language, to make the social forecast even more accurate.
