Inspiration
As an incoming freshmen at UC Berkely I have only now realized how much of a pain it is to find rommates and was suprised to see that the most popular solution is just an instagram page full of people introducing themselves.
What it does
Room8 allows users to sign up and input information about themselves that would help decide whether or not somebody would want to live with them. After doing so, users can browse the app for other individuals who are like them in order to find roommates
How I built it
I used Next.js and Tailwind CSS for the frontend while using Supabase for the database and API
Challenges we ran into
I originally started my project in React Native and made a good amount of progreess but after a couple of hours my hotspot ran out and the wifi was not strong enough for me to test on my phone anymore. I couldn't download anything either so I had to restart around 3:00pm and redo my project in Next.js
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of coming up with the idea and building a pretty decent prototype
What we learned
I learned a lot about data base structure and APIs in general as before this project, nearly all my dev experience was in frontend
What's next for room8
I want to expand to other colleges besides Berkely and even implement a section for non college students still looking for roommates. I also want to rebuild the app in React Native so I can publish it as a real mobile app
Built With
- next.js
- sql
- supabase
- tailwindcss
