Inspiration

Seeing a friend struggle to find accommodation in a new city highlighted a widespread problem for students. What started as a simple WhatsApp group to help peers find roommates quickly proved the need for a dedicated, scalable housing platform.

What it does

Room Share is a centralized platform that helps students easily discover verified PGs, rental rooms, and flats, while also connecting them with compatible roommates to share living spaces and split costs.

How we built it

We developed a cross-platform mobile application using Flutter for a smooth frontend experience, integrated with Supabase for secure backend database management and authentication.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was integrating the Supabase API with Flutter and ensuring smooth authentication, database operations, and data handling. We also focused on building trustworthy listings and a reliable experience for students.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a functional, reliable solution that tackles a very real and stressful problem: helping students confidently and safely find their home away from home in a new city.

What we learned

Beyond improving our technical skills in full-stack mobile development, we learned that launching a consumer product requires a massive focus on establishing user trust, community building, and hands-on user acquisition.

What's next for Room Share

We plan to partner with local housing aggregators to scale our listings, introduce secure in-app messaging for privacy, and implement an AI-driven compatibility score for better roommate matching.
