Inspiration
Smart homes, IoT, Trigger Data.
What it does
An IoT-based Smart Building Digital Twin that collects physical sensor data through an STM32, processes and stores time-series data in TimeScaleDB, applies predictive analytics, and exposes real-time monitoring through Grafana.
How we built it
Room Sentinel was built with React, TypeScript for the frontend, python for backend and c for hardware. It monitors five temperature sensors in one room, showing live readings, history, and a temperature gradient estimated between sensors.
Challenges we ran into
Hardware settings, project architecture and design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Fully functional web and mobile application ready to deploy.
What we learned
Interaction with hardware through a server, how Grafana can be used, turning sensor readings into charts and an estimated heatmap, how to handle missing data, connection failures, and loading states, handle authentication, sessions, and device pairing.
What's next for Room Sentinel
Room Sentinel as it is now can be deployed after some refining. Both mobile and web applications are working with the server properly and device properly.
