Inspiration
“Room 6” was born from a simple image: a lonely roadside motel at dusk, a detective with a cigarette, and a closet that should never be opened. I wanted to explore how AI can recreate the tension, pacing and texture of classic American noir — and then push it into something darker, stranger, and more unsettling.
What it does
The film tells a compact horror story about identity, repetition, and the uncanny. Using generative video, audio and image tools, it builds a tense, atmospheric narrative where the viewer stays one step behind the truth until the very end.
How we built it
Every frame was generated using multiple AI systems: Veo, Luma, Kling, Suno, Runway, Midjourney and others. I created detailed cinematic prompts, storyboard-style sequences, and iterative character design for the detective and the creature. Editing, pacing, sound shaping and final grading were done manually to give the film a cohesive noir–horror tone.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was consistency — keeping the same character design, wardrobe, lighting and mood across dozens of AI-generated shots. Another challenge was physical continuity: teaching the model to understand movement, props, and action scenes inside a dark, confined space like a motel closet. Achieving believable tension without showing too much was a delicate balance.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
I’m proud that the film maintains a unified style, a clear narrative arc, and a cinematic rhythm despite being built from multiple AI sources. The detective character — Frank Harrow — became a fully convincing AI actor. The film has already received several festival awards, which confirms that AI storytelling can be emotional, moody, and visually coherent.
What we learned
I learned how far generative tools can be pushed when used like a traditional film crew: lighting designer, editor, cinematographer, and even actor. I also learned the importance of iteration — sometimes a single shot required dozens of micro-adjustments to achieve the right tension and atmosphere.
What’s next for ROOM 6
I plan to expand this world into a longer AI horror anthology piece, exploring other rooms, guests, and secrets in the Starlight Inn. Experimentation continues: better fight choreography, more expressive AI acting, and deeper integration of sound and image. Room 6 is just the beginning.
