Roof systems mapping

Inspiration

Had a project where we had to manually map which unit is where on the roof for the contractors to connect it to the right place in the piping and wiring

What it does

a drone takes a video of the roof, identifies the QR codes and embeds them in an as built model.

How we built it

Rhino modeling and grasshopper. QR code generation

Challenges we ran into

Can not see images in speckle. Solved with SVG and more. couldn't send views from grasshopper. baked into rhino. sent from there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a drone path in grasshopper with data from speckle. using new grasshopper elements. Worked on a weekend with 3 boys. Failed at python again. continued anyway.

What we learned

layering models is powerful. you can add svg to speckle.

What's next for Roof systems mapping

Read the QR codes using OpenCV to receive the data. Develop a curve around each system and check if the QR code is within the curve to assign the appropriate curve to each system. Consider integrating 3D scanning and segmentation to enhance the workflow. Specify a fixed number of QR codes that the drone must locate before completing the capture. Generate a comparison of the modifications. Implement an automated layout for new wiring and piping designs.
