Inspiration

Calculating roof pitch, slope angles, and rafter lengths manually can be tedious and prone to mathematical errors for DIY builders and roofing contractors. We wanted to build a simple, clean, and interactive tool to automate these calculations instantly in the browser.

What it does

The Roof Pitch Calculator takes simple inputs like vertical rise and horizontal run to instantly calculate the roof pitch ratio, exact slope angle in degrees, slope percentage, and rafter length. It works seamlessly across all devices.

How I built it

We built this tool using clean, semantic HTML5 for structure, custom responsive CSS for mobile flexibility, and vanilla JavaScript to handle all mathematical calculations in real-time without needing page reloads.

Challenges I ran into

Ensuring the mathematical formulas were 100% accurate for various roof configurations while maintaining a highly lightweight, ad-free, and fast-loading web interface.

What's next for Roof Pitch Calculator

We plan to add more advanced roofing tools, such as truss calculators, shingles estimation, and material cost calculators.
