This project was inspired by the small, familiar comforts of everyday life in Hong Kong - milk tea, char siu, salted egg, and a simple bowl of white rice.

These foods are more than meals; they represent memory, routine, and quiet affection. The goal was to turn these everyday flavors into a playful Cantopop love song using AI as a creative collaborator.

What It Does

Romantic Milk Tea, Char Siu & Salted Egg Rice is an original AI-generated Cantopop music video. The vocals, melody, and visuals were created using AI tools, while the lyrics were written by a human and adapted into a generative music workflow.

The result is a lighthearted romantic song that treats comfort food as a metaphor for love, familiarity, and emotional warmth.

How We Built It

  • Lyrics were written by a human, inspired by Hong Kong food culture

  • A virtual singer (“Neo”) was designed as an AI-generated performer

Challenges

One challenge was preserving cultural nuance while working with generative systems. Ensuring the tone felt playful and affectionate - rather than novelty-driven - required careful iteration across lyrics, vocals, and visuals.

Another challenge was balancing realism and stylization in the AI-generated performer.

What We Learned

AI can be especially effective when paired with culturally grounded storytelling. By starting with authentic human experiences, generative tools can enhance creativity rather than replace it.
