Inspiration

Finding internships and jobs as a student can be really confusing. You have to work on your resume, search for jobs, prepare for interviews, figure out what skills you are missing, and constantly look for career advice.

I wanted to build something that could bring these things together in one place. Instead of using different tools for every part of the job-hunting process, I wanted RoleEase to feel like a personal AI career assistant that can help throughout the journey.

What it does

RoleEase is an AI-powered career companion for students and job seekers.

It includes an AI career chat where users can ask questions and get personalized career guidance. Users can also upload their resumes and other documents for analysis, find how well their profile matches a job, prepare for interviews, and follow career roadmaps based on their goals.

The app also supports document attachments with on-device OCR, allowing information to be extracted from uploaded documents and used during the conversation.

The idea is to make the entire process feel connected rather than having separate tools for resumes, interviews, job matching, and career guidance.

How we built it

RoleEase is built natively for iOS using Swift and SwiftUI, with SwiftData for storing application data.

For the AI experience, I built a backend that communicates with the AI model and supports streaming responses. This allows users to see the response being generated in real time instead of waiting for the entire response to finish.

I also implemented document and image attachments, on-device OCR, conversation history, authentication, resume analysis, job matching, interview preparation, and career roadmap features.

For subscriptions, I integrated RevenueCat to manage the subscription system and premium features. I connected the products from App Store Connect with RevenueCat and implemented the paywall and entitlement system inside the app.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was bringing many different features into one application while keeping the interface simple and easy to understand.

The AI chat was another challenging part. Streaming responses meant that I had to carefully handle the incoming text, conversation state, and scrolling behavior so that the latest response stays visible to the user.

Getting subscriptions working correctly was also a learning experience. I had to understand how App Store Connect products, subscription groups, RevenueCat offerings, and entitlements all work together.

Another challenge was making the AI useful for actual career-related tasks instead of just creating a basic chatbot. I wanted the different parts of the app, such as resumes, jobs, interviews, and career goals, to work together and provide more relevant guidance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I was able to build RoleEase as a complete working iOS application rather than just a prototype.

I built the main features from the ground up, including the AI chat experience, resume analysis, job matching, interview preparation, career roadmaps, document processing, and the subscription system.

I'm also particularly proud of integrating RevenueCat and getting the subscription and paywall flow working as part of the actual app. It was my first time putting together this many different parts of an AI-powered product into one application.

What we learned

Building RoleEase taught me that creating an AI application is much more than just connecting an API to a chatbot.

I learned a lot about streaming AI responses, backend communication, document processing, OCR, subscription management, and designing an interface around AI.

I also learned how important the user experience is when working with AI. The response itself is only one part of the experience. Things like loading states, streaming, scrolling, attachments, conversation history, and how information is presented can make a big difference.

Working with RevenueCat also helped me understand the complete subscription workflow, from creating products in App Store Connect to configuring offerings and entitlements and connecting them to the app.

What's next for RoleEase

I want to continue improving RoleEase and make the career guidance more personalized.

Some of the things I want to work on next are improving the AI's understanding of a user's career goals, making job matching more useful, improving interview preparation, and providing better career roadmaps.

I also want to continue refining the overall UI and making the experience faster and easier to use.

The long-term goal is for RoleEase to become a single place where students can manage their career preparation, understand where they currently stand, and get clear guidance on what they should do next.
