Inspiration
We wanted to create a bold rogue-like card game, but as individuals without any artistic skill, we had to find a way to create our card sets. What we lacked in artistic ability, we made up for in our ability to develop! The end result was to have the computer generate the art content for our card game, while we lay the foundation for the gameplay mechanics.
What it does
Generates playing cards for our game, using OpenAI for the image generation, and monsternames-api for the name generation.
How we built it
We built this using express.js, interactions with publicly available API's, and a self hosted instance of Appwrite.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting services proved more difficult than anticipated, particularly the Appwrite subscription component. We wanted to create a playing field for the game as well but we made it as far as content generation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to have the card art, names, and stats all made by the computer.
What we learned
We learned how to better work with webapp design concepts and how to apply certain components of a realtimeDB system.
What's next for Rogle
Making the game playable in the browser.
