Inspiration

Inspired by productivity lifechanger - Bullet Journal and Moleskine notebook implemented in pure CSS. I have always want a personal dashboard that can celebrate, document every day moments as well as improve the my productivity flow. I hope you will try this journal out. And I definitely plan to use it.

What it does

Talk to RocketJournal in plain English. It takes your input and use Wit.ai natural language processing to identify your intent and content. It updates the realtime document store in Firebase accordingly. It's the perfect synergy to be able to interact with this journal using your own words, instead of clicks. And most importantly it is very easy to use on the go. It serves as a beautiful dashboard for your weekly plans.

How I built it

Wit.ai is the super intelligent, low-code NLP processing layer used in RocketJournal to quickly, effortlessly parse user input and modify the journal in real time. Wit figures out which daytime to add or remove (intent) journal entries (custom message body). It is super easy to re-train!

It is very cool to experiment with utterances to re-train Wit.ai on the go, instantly. The moment I come up with more examples, I can just log into wit.ai and train validate within seconds. That is magic.

Challenges I ran into

System Integration is a big challenge. The original source code was measured in MB because I had to experiment a lot with Firebase API, how to parse and handle Wit.ai response, train it, generate sample utterance, display changes and handle changes in real time using vanilla javascript in a single page application.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Use Wit.ai as the NLP layer to make user interactions effortless.

What I learned

NLP API request handling, real time database json store, change handling with Firebase, vanilla javascript.

What's next for Rocket Journal

More in the read me section: but definitely 1. bubble tracker for exercising, coffee 2. custom marker for bullets 3. integration with messenger and 4. more implementation for UI components on the journal. 5. re-write refactor in React.js! I have always want a personal dashboard that can celebrate, document every day moments as well as improve the my productivity flow. I hope you will try this journal out. And I definitely plan to use it.
