Inspiration

As Montrealers, we understand the challenges of finding the perfect neighborhood to settle down and buy a home. Our goal is to simplify this process by providing a tool that helps you explore the best areas based on your budget and lifestyle.

What it does

boldRocket utilizes Montreal Open Data to analyze real trends and recommend the best areas to boldlive based on your budget and criteria. Users can view an interactive map that highlights insights about each neighborhood, and a description box provides detailed information about housing trends, amenities, and local infrastructure.

Also, a built-in AI-chatbot is available to answer questions about the buying and renting process, helping users navigate the necessary steps with ease.

How we built it

We built Rocket using a combination of Flask for the backend, MongoDB for data storage, and Leaflet.js for the interactive map. The chatbot functionality is powered by OpenAI’s GPT model, allowing users to ask real estate questions and receive instant guidance. Additionally, JavaScript, HTML and CSS were used.

Challenges we ran into

It was to map the districts accurately. Most datasets provide only a single coordinate per district, which does not allow for the full shape of the district. To address this, we worked on geospatial transformations to define the proper boundaries and having an accurate representation on the map.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully integrated a real-time budget filtering to help users find the best neighborhoods. We also implemented an interactive chatbot to assist with home-buying and renting guidance And finally, we overcome the geospatial data limitations to provide a more accurate visual representation of Montreal’s neighborhoods.

What we learned

The UI design is always very important, and it is also important to be able to optimize your data, especially when such a big flow is analyzed.

We wish to expand Rocket by having a more advanced real estate guidance ; including the legal aspect and add more data sources to improve the accuracy such as the school ratings, public transit and more.
