Inspiration
We were inspired by aerospace and education when looking at the themes. We also noticed that learning about aerospace was quite dull and needed a change. Thus, we were inspired to create a method for learning aerospace while having fun. The chicken came from the McDonald's chicken nuggets that we were eating, and the rocket was from our knowledge of the current limit of aerospace.
What it does
Rocket Chicken is the solution which allows users to understand and break down complex concepts in a simple and fun way. The goal is to enable a chicken to follow the steps of the first chicken to fly in the sky, by enabling a chicken to reach his destination (Mars) while gaining knowledge throughout the way on how different technologies work. With knowledge built into the code of the game, it is easy to pick up information passively, ensuring customers come back to learn more, especially with a secondary source to verify their newfound knowledge.
How we built it
Rocket Chicken used JavaScript and Vercel to bring the game to life. Because of the short timeframe of this hackathon, we used AI to help speed up the process. We started off with a basic idea and gradually added ideas and features to the game. This process repeated for several hours, gradually polishing Rocket Chicken until the final result.
Challenges we ran into
The main problem we faced was the ideation phase, where we struggled to come up with a relevant and original idea. This problem led us to develop an idea which had a clear dead end, stopping us from developing our first idea into a meaningful project that can be expanded upon. Therefore, we had to switch midway through the event, restarting the entire process from ground zero. Our new idea was to create Rocket Chicken, a game that blends learning topics with a fun game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our group is proud to create a workable model of our first vision of Rocket Chicken. This game can succeed both short- and long-term while also being scalable and sustainable. This is something that can be used by many people. Most importantly, this project teaches aerospace and astronomy, something that is often overlooked by society but is actually important for the future. Rocket Chicken aims to solve this by focusing on this issue by combining engaging content with actual learning.
What we learned
We learned that the hardest part of any project is the ideation, and then the rest comes much easier. Finding out ideas that are both new and innovative, as well as ensuring that you are not copying something else, is something that is challenging and will continue to be challenging.
What's next for Rocket Chicken
Rocket Chicken is scaleable, and so we plan to scale. As technology advances and more is known about the history and future of aerospace, the game can be updated according to newly found knowledge. We plan to further expand by adding more details to core features and adding more eras, possibly diving into future technology to make the game more immersive and educational.
