Inspiration
We wanted to complete Truist's challenge to create a gamified app meant to teach anyone about finance concepts. UGAHack's theme this year was Rock n' Roll, so we thought it would be interesting to combine the two.
What it does
The user is able to interact with non playable characters in the world, who ask the user questions about finance concepts. The user has to answer the questions correctly to earn tickets, which is the form of progression for our game.
How we built it
We used the ThreeJS 3D Javascript library to build this application.
Challenges we ran into
Working with a new library, we faced challenges with understanding the different features available to us. It wasn't always intuitive, but we managed to find our way over these hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having a playable web app is impressive. Interactable 3D content on the web isn't very common, so we're happy to get it working for us.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the foundations of web and 3D game development. We entered the project without significant knowledge in HTML, CSS, or Javascript and came away with a good foundation in all three.
What's next for Rock n' Roll Finance
Expanding on the modularity is important. Additionally, we'd like to tie more interactive processes into the game other than simple multiple choice questions.
